The Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, in partnership with HealthCamp Florida, today announced the launch of Quantified Tampa Bay, an interactive, half-day event that focuses on the data and devices driving the transformation of healthcare in Tampa Bay and across the nation.  Scheduled for September 16, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Tampa Marriott Waterside & Marina, Quantified Tampa Bay will showcase the local business and academic leaders at the frontline of innovation in quantified self and personalized medicine. 

Disruptive new business models are emerging in healthcare, aimed at the trifecta of results: improved quality, lower cost and increased access.  Data and new medical devices are leading the change, impacting areas that include the selection of insurance plans, self-tracking tools, electronic health records, consumer engagement through wellness and fitness apps, personalized medicine and monitoring devices for chronic illnesses, and medical compliance.

“The Tampa Bay region is already known nationally for our management of data and the development of innovative medical devices,” said Rick Homans, President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation.  “We have a unique opportunity to position our community as the epicenter of transformation for the $3 trillion healthcare industry and, at the same time, create new companies, high-paying jobs and strategic capital investment.”

At Quantified Tampa Bay, participants will discuss the issues, trends, products, new and emerging technologies, and innovations that are making this one of the most exciting fields in healthcare today.  The agenda will include an introduction to the quantified landscape, a spotlight on local businesses succeeding in this space, and a conversation with the hospital systems responsible for the implementation of the new healthcare model.

Dr. Kevin Snead, Dean of the USF College of Pharmacy, and Saru Seshadri, CEO/CTO of Ultramatics, a local technology solutions company, will headline the program with an overview of their collaboration to create the “Pharmacy of the Future” in Tampa Bay. 

Other featured speakers will include:

• Anthony Diaz, Founder and President of Health Hero, an online community that uses gamification techniques to reward employees and help create long-term, sustainable healthy habits;
• Lisa Gills, CEO of Smart Reflection, a serial healthcare entrepreneur leading the development of an app that provides better training for frontline health practitioners using gamification techniques;
• Dr. Lisa Rodriguez, Vice Chief of Staff, Pediatrics at Tampa General Hospital, who was inspired to create a better way for medical professionals to learn and evolve.
